The little school that could....

A day at Escuela del Mundo provided our Camosun students good insight on how social determinants of health impact children's lives. This not-for-profit Montessori based school comprised of both local and international families whose parents are highly educated, committed teachers, and a curriculum that focuses on holistic learning encourages the importance of oral health through daily toothbrushing regimen after lunch and through discussions of the impact of nutrition on oral health.  This combination of factors and the good oral health habits developed at an early age will have positive benefits throughout their lives.

The small eatery was not yet open at 730 in the morning.
Making our way to the school with supplies in hand.

Everyone is looking ready and prepared.
About 20 minute walk from the student's hotel is the entrance of the school.
The school has a website. Check them out.
The children were inquisitive. Glades interpreting for the group presentation.
Meryl led the presentation on toothbrushing technique.
Show-Tell-Do time.
Group picture with the 4-6 year olds.
In the other classroom, the older children were not shy about checking out what was going on.
Ahhh, another job well done ladies! We changed into shorts before we headed over to the Children's Day festivities at the Community Center, Entreamigos.
Glades securing dental hygiene appointments.
Squeezing most everybody in the back seat on the way to Entreamigos.
